Mabel's Labels

Let me start this entry by saying, I am astounded how many things kids leave behind. Years ago when I was a school secretary, I would just be flabbergasted at the vast amount of stuff sitting in the LOST & FOUND.

None of it was cheap stuff. Brand names Macy's, Abercrombie, more. Once I saw one shoe. One. How do you lost one shoe in elementary school? It's not as though you're changing clothes at any point, right? And lunch boxes galore. We all know that lunch boxes are only cheap in August.

I swore when I had kids that would never happen to me. So in order to avoid any of this I own LOTS of permanent markers. Well, this year I found something better. A lot better. They're labels by MABELS LABELS. There are a number of different kinds of labels, including circular ones with you child's name that go on the inside soul of the shoe (it has a clear protective label that goes over the top to keep it in place).

How do you feel about sales? Discounts? Love them!! I got this e-mail today:

PURPLE DAY

reminder:
EPILEPSY OUTREACH EVENT - March 26th, 2009
Purple Day is Thursday, March 26, 2009. We hope that millions across the world will wear purple to unite in a global movement to remind everyone that Epilepsy affects over 50 million people worldwide. That's more than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson's Disease.... combined.

Simply wear your favorite purple dress, tie, or shirt on Purple Day. Don't have one? Buy purple ribbon and wear a purple ribbon. Don't forget to tell anyone who looks interested why you are doing this. Do it to help inspire others to take action to learn first aid for seizures and to understand the facts about Epilepsy. Purple Day was founded in 2008 by nine-year-old Cassidy Megan of Nova Scotia, Canada, she herself is living with Epilepsy.

Purple Day is a global grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about Epilepsy worldwide. On March 26, people from around the globe are being asked to wear purple and spread the word about Epilepsy. The American Epilepsy Outreach Foundation is a U.S. partner for this event.

((additional information please visit www.epilepsyoutreach.org and www.purpleday.org.))

TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE FACE OF EPILEPSY!
{I am posting this for my son who is living with this devastating condition. Josh lives his life having seizures-usually daily, and the aches and pains that come from having seizures. These come from accidentally hitting his head in the process of having a seizure or from the bumps and bruises that come from the falls some of his seizures cause. Wear Purple for all of the kids like Joshua and the adults who used to be kids like Joshua. I will be. And I'll be carrying around purple ribbons for people who ask why my whole family is dressed in purple.}

One face of Epilepsy

This is my Josh, he is living with Epilepsy. He is the sweetest boy. I will wear purple on Thursday, March 26th for Josh and others like him.

Meatless Fridays

Lent becomes an adventure for me at dinner time. Not that I mind, in fact if it were up to me we'd eat meatless twice a week. But my son, my darling adorable 9 year old is incredibly difficult to feed. He eats meat, pasta, rice, corn and junk food. Ok that's an oversimplification. He also eats tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, bananas, grapes, melons, and yogurt without bits. Crackers, chips and cheese are also on the ok list, in fact they're on the preferred list.
I know that children aren't included in the meatless fast during Lent but I'm not cooking separate dinners for 5 people. Besides my mom and dad always fed us what they ate (unless we were out to dinner). So, cheers to inflicting it on another generation.

Not that you needed to know all of that, but I can't wait to for dinner tonight. Should be an adventure. He'll hate it. On the menu tonight we have Pasta e Fagiole & Green Salad. Good luck Jer. Oh well, tomorrow is Chicken Casserole, he'll be happier.

Kid's scheduling conflicts

This was one of those evenings... you know the crazy ones. So today there was one baseball practice (oldest) and an open house (middle). Both at the same time--when I should be making dinner. But of course I had a plan, my slow cooker. That would be my saving grace! We would each take one of the boys to their appointment (of course I would take my little girl too). And when we got home dinner would be waiting. Oops. I forgot to thaw the beef. Well, throw that plan out of the window. Leftovers anyone?

Fruit & kids....

Eventually I intend to talk about things that interest me (and hopefully some of you). Things like cooking, baking, photography, parent club & classroom mom stuff, organizing my family, sports. And anything else that occurs to me that seems interesting.

But in the interim I am trying to clean up the grape juice syrup mess on my kitchen floor that was left by hungry children who didn't notice the ones that fell and that they then stepped on (which they also didn't notice) and ground into my kitchen floor. Grapes are one of the things I've asked them to be extra careful about (apparently they're dangerous for dogs to eat); obviously to no avail [deep sigh].

Please don't get me started on the banana peels found in all manner of places, when they are only allowed to eat in the kitchen--for just this reason! Oh well, at least bananas are safe for the dog.....

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog. Still sounds strange. I will be popping in to talk about things I do to make life for us fun and more organized (than it has been for the last few years). Hopefully, I will be interesting or at the very least entertaining enough for you to return back here to see my latest high jinx.

At the start I don't know how often I'll be updating, but I'm shooting for a couple of times a weeks.
